Yay! This was a joy to read. Congratulations on your massive achievement, Dr. Rachie! And fuck yeah - you must absolutely partake in pride for turning down the post doc work. Get some time away from academia. I ended up having what I coined as a “mini burn out” taking a half year off from work to recover, a year after my PhD, since going directly into a full time job literally the day after my defense was (*spoiler alert*) a bAd IdEa.

Miss you and hope all is super well! Looking forward to more words on the page, and sending all the good vibes from Sweden—-

And Yes, Rent is God Damned Scam.

Ricky! First of all I miss you so much and was recently thinking about you, so hearing from you is a nice little surprise. I relate to everything you said so much. I started the postdoc the week after submitting my thesis, and surprise surprise, I'm burnt the fuck out one year later. No one warns you about how soul-destroying a PhD is, or that it's okay (and necessary) to take time off to recover. I hope you've been able to heal from the whole thing and find your sparkle again.

Be in touch!!! I miss you!!

Dr. Rachie! I'm still celebrating your achievement (and will for the rest of my life). And you know what else is a cat? Everything GOOD in this world. XO Mom
