On choosing your own adventure when the bad guys close in
I never finish anything. THIS, I devoured whole hog.
Write on, Rachel
Wow, thank you!!
Keep on writing Rachel. If that's what you want to do you can make it happen. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't.
Thank you, Linda!! I appreciate your support :)
You just proved that you have it in you to make it as a writer. Fantastic piece.
Not that you need reminding, but here's a couple poems on this topic from my favorite poets:
Harlem
BY LANGSTON HUGHES
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
AND
Constantly Risking Absurdity (#15)
BY LAWRENCE FERLINGHETTI
Constantly risking absurdity
and death
whenever he performs
above the heads
of his audience
the poet like an acrobat
climbs on rime
to a high wire of his own making
and balancing on eyebeams
above a sea of faces
paces his way
to the other side of day
performing entrechats
and sleight-of-foot tricks
and other high theatrics
and all without mistaking
any thing
for what it may not be
For he's the super realist
who must perforce perceive
taut truth
before the taking of each stance or step
in his supposed advance
toward that still higher perch
where Beauty stands and waits
with gravity
to start her death-defying leap
And he
a little charleychaplin man
who may or may not catch
her fair eternal form
spreadeagled in the empty air
of existence
I haven't read these in ages! They're so good. Thanks for reminding me :)
